One question ran through everything this week: who gets to be an “agent”?
Governments are using the word, Meta is building profiles of people who never signed up, and a math forum had to stop accepting AI proofs. When the word gets stretched that far, someone’s agency usually gets smaller: ours.
This week, our community members asked what it really means to call AI systems “agents,” and who that framing serves. Here’s what we were reading:
Phase Lock, a manifesto on brain-computer interfaces and human agency
Meta’s Muse builds profiles of your friends and family, even people who don’t use it
Common Sense Media rates ChatGPT for Teens an “unacceptable risk”
A math forum freezes proof claims after a flood of AI-generated proofs
How have you seen “agent” get used? Hit reply and tell us.
💻 Dev skills are shifting
In our Technical Discussions sub-group, members compared notes on how AI agents are changing what developers need to know. Two threads worth reading: this one and this one (via Morgan Linton).
🎉 The CT Wall is live
Our newly updated CT Wall gathers member commitments and testimonials. Whether you’ve been here for a while, or just joined, add yours:
🇹🇭 Chiang Mai
The 1:3:5 framework is traveling beyond the group, and we welcomed more members. The next meetup in Chiang Mai, Thailand, is this Thursday, Oct 15. RSVP on Luma if you’re around.
🧪 Inside the Lab
Most of this week’s conversations happened inside the Lab. Members got a new Members Portal in Notion, with its own Lab Guide agent. They shared what they’re working on, traded takeaways from a member’s talk, and followed up on intro connections. We also welcomed a new member, and Siosi is wrapping up his Notion AI Solutions Partner certification.
Want in on the conversation and support? Join the Lab.
Until next time,
— Siosi
